Recording is now available of webinar: Why MOOCs While Dealing with Large Numbers of Distance Learners by Cengiz Hakan Aydin (Anadolu University) on 31 May 2018.  

This webinar focuses on a long-time open and distance learning provider institution’s MOOCs initiative. It does not only provide an insight about the instructional, assessment, and managerial strategies but also clarifies the differences and similarities between MOOCs and the other distance education courses, uncovers the institution’s major motives for offering MOOCs. The webinar, at the same time, offers a vision about how the MOOCs experience can help the traditional distance education providers, such as Anadolu, complete their e-transformation.    

Questions to be discussed:

  • What are the similarities and differences between traditional distance education courses and MOOCs?
  • What were the drivers for offering MOOCs?
  • What kinds of lessons have we, as Anadolu University, learned that might be effective on our future distance education offerings?

Cengiz Hakan Aydin

Cengiz Hakan AYDIN, PhD, is a professor in Anadolu University of Turkey where he has been offering courses in the field of open and distance learning since early 1990s such as Instructional Design, Designing ODL, and Research on ODL. He had also served as instructional designer in the Open Education System of the University until September 2017, and as the dean of one of the major ODL faculty of the University between 2013-2016. His current research interest focuses on design and development of ODL environments, integration of new technologies into ODL, Open Education Resources (OER), and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). Professor AYDIN served as the President of the International Division of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT), as one of the board member of the International Council for Educational Media (ICEM) and of the International Division of AECT. Professor AYDIN has been a member of editorial boards of the journals, the International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning (IRRODL), and Educational Media International (EMI). He is currently serving as a member of the steering committee of OpenupEd and as a member of the ICDE’s Advocacy Committee for OER.
