During the master class on the role of MOOCs in higher education (23 October 2013), a draft version of the 'OpenupEd label' was launched. The presentation of John Rosewell introducing this label can be viewed here as well as on slideshare. On the 7 November the OpenupEd label was slightly improved and is now under review. It can be downloaded here.

The label will be used as a quality label for MOOCs. The benchmarks presented can be used as quick-scan for an initial self-evaluation on which to base a more detailed review. The label and review are part of the basic conditions for becoming an OpenupEd partner.

The label is part of the quality brand of OpenupEd. Although there's a clear diversity of institutional approaches, the partnership has agreed on a framework of eight common features for its MOOCs in order to open up education to a maximum level. The OpenupEd label uses these benchmarks but diversity in (institutional) approaches to open up educations by the use of MOOCs. As such a institutional development plan on MOOCs and on open(ing up) education is important as well.
