Today, medicinal plants have been used more commonly as a result of the
growing interest in natural medicines in order to prevent side effects of synthetic
medicines.
Medicinal plants (certain parts of plants or extracts obtained from plants) have
been used for therapeutic purposes in human beings and animals.
This course focuses on herbal medicines prepared at home for symptomatic
treatment of simple diseases (e.g. common cold). The course explains the
purposes of using herbal medicines, how to use and prepare them, and their
potential harms. This course mainly offers information on linden, mint, sage,
hibiscus, coltsfoot, echinacea and thyme, i.e. the most commonly used herbs for
therapeutic purposes.

Günümüzde sentetik ilaçların yan etkilerinden sakınmak amacıyla doğal ilaçlara ilgi artmış buna paralel olarak Tıbbi bitkilerin kullanımı artmıştır.
Doğrudan doğruya bitkinin çeşitli kısımlarının veya onlardan elde edilen etkili maddelerin dahilen veya haricen insan ve hayvanlarda görülen hastalıkların tedavisinde kullanılan bitkilere Tıbbi Bitki denir.
Bu ders kapsamında basit rahatsızlıkların (Soğuk algınlığı) semptomatik tedavisinde evde hazırlanabilecek bitkisel ilaçlardan bahsedilecektir. Bu bitkisel ilaçların hangi amaçla kullanılacağı, hazırlama şekilleri, potansiyel zararları ve tehlikeleri vurgulanacaktır. Ihlamur, Nane, Adaçayı, Hatmi, Öksürükotu, Ekinezya, Kekik evlerde ençok kullanılan bitkilerdendir ve öncelikle bu bitkiler incelenecektir.

Hafta 1: Tıbbi bitkilerin tarihçesi, Dünya'da ve Türkiye'de tıbbi bitkiler, Tıbbi bitkilerde dikkat edilmesi gereken konular, Bitkisel çayları hazırlama yöntemleri
Hafta 2: Tilia sp. (Ihlamur) ve Mentha sp. (Nane) etkileri, hazırlama şekli
Hafta 3: Salvia sp. (Adaçayı) ve Kekik, etkileri, hazırlama şekli
Hafta 4. Althea officinalis (Hatmi), Tussilago farfara (öksürük otu) ve Echinacea sp. (Ekinezya) etkileri, hazırlama şekli
