Цель дисциплины. Изложение основных этапов естественной истории Земли. Формирование представлений о составе, строении, динамике и эволюции Земли как сложной развивающейся биокосной геосистеме.

Задачи дисциплины. Изучение основных этапов развития земной коры, атмосферы, гидросферы и биосферы в масштабе геологического времени. Освоение начальных приёмов исследования геологических систем и процессов.
